Pledge Dedication Sunday

They are being tested by many troubles… But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity. 2 Corinthians 8:2 The Stewardship Committee has chosen 2 Corinthians 8:2 as our Stewardship theme. FCC Georgetown has been challenged during this pandemic; but, we are still the church. FCC Georgetown has continued to show God’s love and generosity towards each other and those in our community. The services look different from before. There is social distancing and use of technology in ways we would maybe have not thought of before this time. However, the results are the same: we worship, we support each other and our community, and we share God’s love and blessing. For this year’s Stewardship campaign, there will be various methods for you to share your intention of giving. We will share more specifics in our upcoming Stewardship letter and pledge card to be sent the week of September 7th. We will have Stewardship stories on September 13th and 20th, and Pledge Dedication Sunday will be September 27th. Your pledge is very important and is used by the Stewardship Committee to plan the budget for 2021. While you are considering your pledge for 2021, please share photos that embody your abundant joy and ways that you/FCC have given to the community. Please send your photos via email no later than September 13th, so we may use them in a video collage during the campaign. Please forward your photos to Lee Thomas at: jazzmanpo4@yahoo.com. Thank you so much for your pledges and giving in the past, and your ongoing support of the church.

Messy Holidays

The holidays over the next couple of months will likely look different for many of us in this pandemic world. They may include new opportunities & experiences, but also grief and disappointment. In addition, some are carrying heavy burdens of personal grief or struggle due to life situations or the loss of loved ones this year. On Wednesday, November 18, at 7:00 p.m., we’ll explore experiencing the “messy holidays” of 2020 in light of all of this in a special Zoom session. We’ll discuss dealing with adjustments & grief as well as offer some ideas and practices to mark the holidays in adjusted ways. (We’ll also be offering a virtual “Blue Christmas/Longest Night” worship service in December as well- watch for more information!)

Congregational Meeting

First Christian Church 112 East College Street, Georgetown, KY, United States

One of the responsibilities of our life together is our annual Congregational Meeting, where we consider the proposed budget for the next year and the slate of nominations for positions of leadership and service within the congregation. This year’s Congregational Meeting will be on Sunday, November 22, immediately following the 11:00 a.m. worship service. Due to the pandemic, the board approved a modified approach to the congregational meeting in their own October meeting that is still in keeping with the spirit of our by-laws. Due to the adjusted format and need to keep the in-person session as brief as possible due to COVID-19 precautions, we ask that you voice questions in advance if possible. If you have questions about the budget, you can contact Lee Thomas, Stewardship Committee Chairperson, at or jazzmanpo4@yahoo.com. Questions about the slate of nominations can be directed to Jamie McDermott, Nominating Committee Chairperson, at or ottjm@aol.com. Any other questions or considerations for the meeting or this adjusted process can be directed to Barb Southworth, Board Chairperson, at or brgsouthworth@gmail.com. Those who are members of the congregation can vote in congregational meetings and this year, you can participate in the process through the following options: Attend the meeting in person on November 22. That Sunday is the beginning of our winter worship schedule of only one service (in the sanctuary at 11:00 a.m.) The meeting will immediately follow the worship service- all safety precautions for worship will remain in place for the congregational meeting. Complete the ballot included in the emailed materials and return it to the church via mail (112 East College Street, Georgetown, KY, 40324) or through the mail slot at the Clinton Street main entrance. E-mail the church office at fccgeorgetown@bellsouth.net - please indicate whether you are voting YES or NO for approval of the proposed 2021 budget and YES or NO for approval of the proposed 2021 nominations. Use the following online form to submit your vote: https://forms.gle/tqMtUzznoskLXtct7 Those using printed ballots, e-mail, or the online form should have their vote into the church office by Wednesday, November 18. The vote tallies from all these methods will be shared in the meeting on November 22. The congregational meeting will also be shared live via the church Zoom account at 11:30 a.m. on November 22. Those members participating in the meeting that way will have the opportunity to vote on each item via the poll feature found in Zoom. Thank you for your flexibility as we seek to allow avenues for input in a variety of ways during this time of pandemic adjustments and displacement. In the event that in-person gatherings are cancelled for Sunday, November 22, due to elevated COVID-19 case counts in Scott County, the meeting will be held on the church Zoom account at 11:30 a.m. that morning, with all members participating in voting via the poll feature.

Advent Bag Distribution

This Advent & Christmas season will look a bit different for many of us. We’re putting together bags with a few treats and resources to help connect us together in shared practices through the season, including a simple advent wreath for everyone to light each Sunday at home or before/after attending in-person worship. We’ll be doing porch drop-offs for these bags on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 3:00 p.m. Please let Chris know chriscashky@gmail.com if you’d like to help with assembly prior to the 22nd or with distribution on the 22nd (you’ll come by the church at 3:00 to receive your bags and addresses for drop-off that afternoon).
